July 2008—Rick Illustrates Spokane River, Avista, Northeast Community Center
A River Runs Through Us

The Spokane River is the heart of our region. This month, Rick Hosmer paddled 111 miles down the Spokane River from Lake Coeur d'Alene to its confluence with the Columbia River. Along the way he created drawings that were used by the Spokesman Review and other media to promote the trip. The expedition was sponsored by The Spokane River Forum as a way to introduce people to the unique resource and unique responsibility we have to the river and our aquifer. Avista Annual Report Wins Prestigious Award
As we shared in April's "In the Spotlight", Klündt | Hosmer designed and developed the 2007 Avista Corporation Annual Report. The 84-page publication recently won First Place in its category in the Better Communication Competition held in Washington D.C. on June 26.
The annual contest is sponsored by Utility Communicators International (UCI), an organization established more than 80 years ago made up of communication professionals who work in the energy industry. It is a very prestigious competition, which draws entries from many utilities of all sizes from the United States, Canada, Mexico and overseas.
Avista was also ranked sixth in the top ten communicators of the year among UCI members. Congratulations to our friends at Avista, and thank you for the opportunity to create great design!
A New Image for the Northeast Community Center
When the Northeast Community Center asked Klündt | Hosmer if we would help create a visual identity for their new facility, we saw the opportunity to make a positive impact for their organization and the community at large. Working with Jean Farmer, Executive Director, and members of the Northeast Community Center's logo committee, we created a new visual image for the organization and facility. The symbol communicates how the facility's services weave together with business partners and the community to offer achievement and success. Klündt | Hosmer is pleased to have helped the Northeast Community Center with this pro bono design.
