Posted by Klündt | Hosmer on April 26 2013

InCyte Diagnostics: A New Brand Under the Microscope

Klündt | Hosmer recently launched a new visual brand, slate of pathology reports and print sales materials for InCyte Diagnostics (formerly InCyte Pathology). InCyte Diagnostics acquired East Side Pathology (EPI) in Bellevue, WA in 2012 and needed a new brand image to represent the combined organizations.

The project was lead by Jean Klündt and Rick Hosmer, who worked closely with organization management and ownership in both Spokane and Bellevue, WA to develop the new logo, report design treatment, trade show exhibit and marketing materials.

The new brand image was launched at a company-wide event where the logo design and philosophy were presented by Nate Koenig, InCyte's CMO, along with an unveiling of the company's new report formats and collateral pieces.

Avista Annual Report Features People with Energy for Energy

It's been another success working with Jessie Wuerst and the rest of the team from Avista on their annual report—a project we look forward to each year, that's both challenging and rewarding in nature.

Our team, made of project managers, designers, art directors and proofers love collaborating on a book that not only highlights the past year for Avista, but that visually represents where they stand today and their vision for the future. This year, that meant communicating that Avista is "Strong, Steady, Reliable and Innovative." And most of all, they are all about the people—especially their employees, who continuously improve the ways Avista serves their customers. The design features multiple employees, who have “Energy for Energy” and content that outlines how their ideas and innovation continue to create value for all of Avista's stakeholders.

We enjoyed working with photographers Dean Davis and J. Craig Sweat, as well as the team at Lawton Printing to accomplish this successful project.

An A to Z Brand for ZBA

Klündt | Hosmer recently created a new visual brand for ZBA Architecture. The firm was established in 1984 by Bill Zeck and Rod Butler. Following the firm's name change from Zeck Butler Architects and with the recent addition of two partners, Randy Vanhoff and Mark King, it was the right time for a visual brand update. The goal for the new design was to present ZBA Architecture as creative, progressive, sustainable, well-grounded, professional and established. The visual branding work began with the design of a new logo and followed with collateral material and a beautiful new website featuring the innovative work of this established Northwest architecture firm.

When Good Projects Go Bad: A Candid Conversation with Klündt | Hosmer

You won't want to miss the next Spokane MarCom breakfast on Friday, May 3. Darin and Rick will be reflecting on their 26 years of experience and discussing design projects and client situations that got out of whack and what they did to resolve them. They'll also talk about real tactics on how to get difficult projects back on track to a successful engagement for everyone. Resister online now to attend this event—we look forward to seeing you there!

Our Spark Award Winners

Congrats to our team and clients for being recognized at last week's Spokane Regional MarCom Association Spark Awards! We had a great time celebrating with our fellow MarCom friends, and are proud that these projects received acknowledgement in excellence.

March 2013—Hotstart Tradeshow & Site, Cerium Express, 55th Ave Apartments, ADDYs

Helping HOTSTART Become a World Leader in Engine Heating

We recently redesigned and upgraded the HOTSTART Engine Heating corporate website to better reflect their international presence. The new site makes a cleaner more contemporary impression, highlighting the diverse markets they serve. Although the functionality of the site remains the same, the new look is designed to position the company as a world leader in engine heating.

We have also been working hard designing and promoting HOTSTART's busy tradeshow schedule in Germany, Dubai and the United States. The most recent show took place at the World Trade Center in Dubai where the HOTSTART sales and marketing team connected with customers from countries including Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, Spain, China and India. The show graphics align with the refreshed visual brand and position the company to reach its goals.

Design in the Fast Lane for Cerium Express

Cerium Express is a new, small business division of Cerium Networks—a unified communications provider serving the telephony and networking needs of enterprise-level companies. Klündt | Hosmer developed an updated brand identity and website for them several years ago.

Working closely with the company's marketing team, we adapted new colors to the Cerium Networks' logo to create a logo for Cerium Express. We also developed a tagline for the division—communication in the express lane—wrote the company's new business launch announcement press release, and created a website that Cerium Express staff used to place content specific to the new division.

This work was accomplished on an "express" time frame and everything was ready when the division launched the first week of March 2013.

55th Ave on the South Hill and on the Web

It never hurts to have one of your previous interns recommend you to her new employer for their visual identity and marketing needs. This gave us the pleasure of working with the multi-talented Julianne Bradley to brand and promote a new affordable housing development on the South Hill that we helped name—55th Ave. The property, which was co-developed by Whitewater Creek and Spokane Housing Ventures, features upscale units designed by ZBA Architecture, along with green space and an awesome play structure for the families that occupy the apartments. The logo and website communicate the development's philosophy to provide housing that is modern, clean and easy on the budget. The website features large photos of the property and is programmed to allow staff to easily and quickly update features and apartment availability.

inspirational Displays at Rypien Foundation Children’s Emergency Center

The new children's emergency center at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center features an interpretive exhibit Klündt | Hosmer designed that showcases Mark Rypien's football career and the Rypien Foundation, along with four other accomplished athletes: Mario Lemieux, Ronny Turiaf, Bethany Hamilton and John Olerud. Each of these inspiring athletes overcame tremendous odds to achieve the kind of accomplishments that will give children the hope to continue to persevere. The Rypien Foundation was a major donor in the construction of the new Children's Emergency Center and we are proud to have supported them in the effort. Special thanks goes to Nick Linden who worked closely with us to bring our ideas to life with his usual extra effort and attention to detail.

A Calendar Year of Kalispel Wisdom

For the past 5 years, Klündt | Hosmer has produced an annual calendar for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians. The 2013 calendar is themed: From Our Past Comes the Strength for Our Tomorrow.

The calendar features photographs and wise words from 11 current tribal elders as shared with the youngest members of the tribe. The year closes with a statement and historic photograph of Chief Masselow – a Kalispel leader from the late 1800s who reminds the tribe, "…Remember that our people have been here and will be here forever."

The calendar is given to tribal members and is shared with friends and partners in recognition of the Kalispel Tribe's culture, history and accomplishments.

Cupid has a Good Cause this Valentine's Day

The Spokane American Cancer Society Young Professionals Group came to Klündt | Hosmer to help promote their "date" auction fundraiser, "Cupid for a Cause". We developed a website that shares details about the event, showcases photos and bios of the bachelors/bachelorettes who will be auctioned off and gives people a place to RSVP.

Klündt | Hosmer was pleased to assist this great cause, which helps raise money for Camp Goodtimes – East, a week-long camp for children diagnosed with cancer. To learn more about this event, which will be held on February 8th, please visit: http://cupidforacausespokane.org

Leisure Concepts Shows Off New Brochure Around the Globe

Klündt | Hosmer recently designed the newest Leisure Concepts product catalog which is marketed to spa and pool dealers across the globe. The beautiful 36-page sales tool was printed by Lawton Printing and features sharp product shots and calming colors. It made its debut at the International Pool and Spa Expo in New Orleans, LA and is wrapping up a whirl-wind tradeshow tour at the Eurexpo in Lyon, France. Klündt | Hosmer also created the tradeshow graphics and other marketing materials to promote Leisure Concepts—a leading manufacturer of spa accessories to a global audience.

Engineering a New Website for Coffman

Klündt | Hosmer recently launched a new website for Coffman Engineers. The site features custom photography and information on staff from each office, in addition to an extensive project portfolio. Custom-programmed on-site search functionality enables visitors to search projects and people based on hundreds of managed search terms.

Through conference calls and meetings in Spokane and Seattle, we ensured that everyone's opinion was heard and consensus was gained throughout Coffman's six regional offices on what the website should communicate and accomplish. Following an intricate and inclusive process between the Klündt | Hosmer and Coffman teams, the website was designed, programmed, populated and then launched this Fall.

The success of this project was very important to Coffman Engineers at multiple levels, and they are pleased with the feedback they have received on the new website and how it serves as a marketing and recruiting tool for their growing company. A recent contractor client remarked to Coffman about how much they liked the re-design of the website and the user-friendly filter/search function that proved to be an efficient tool when searching for information on the site. We're very proud of this project and are pleased with the praise it's already received.

Logan's Wishes Come True at Fashion Show

We celebrated life and lifestyle at Logan's Winter Wishes Fashion Show on Sunday, November 11th at the Spokane Convention Center. The fashion show featured young people with disabilities gracing the runway with their shining spirits. The show reminded us all that we shouldn't take life for granted but should seize it with gusto as these amazing kids do everyday. It was an exciting evening both on the runway and back stage with everyone enjoying the gala occasion, which included attendance of the St. Luke’s Paralympics Team, a lively auction and scrumptious cupcakes from Sweet Frostings Bakery.

Gonzaga University Launches New Recruitment Package

Gonzaga University worked with Klündt | Hosmer to develop a complete package of undergraduate recruitment materials to promote the unique offerings of this very special Spokane university, celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

Working closely with Julie McCulloh, Dean of Admission, and Carie Weeks, Assistant Dean of Admission, we centered our work on the theme “Be Inspired.” We first designed a 32-page view book, including the writing of feature stories and art direction of photo shoots on campus and in Portland, OR. The elements were compiled into a publication that communicates the academic excellence that is a cornerstone of Gonzaga University.

In addition to the view book, we developed an innovative recruitment microsite that features stories and photos of students and their accomplishments at Gonzaga, along with campus life details, videos of special programs, podcasts of unique professors, blogs, links to Gonzaga’s social media sites and application information. The new site is hosted with Klündt | Hosmer and is fully-managed by Gonzaga staff using an online content management system.

To wrap-up the recruitment package, Klündt | Hosmer designed two posters, a print piece that is distributed at college fairs and a postcard that announced the launch of the microsite. This is the third series of recruitment materials we have produced over the past 8 years with Gonzaga, with content and visual refreshes in between each series, and we are proud of the success these materials have had over the years.

Gojoe Patrol Hits the Streets with a New Brand

GoJoe Patrol, a new mobile security company in Spokane, has recently launched a unique brand designed by Klündt | Hosmer. When GoJoe Patrol came to us, we knew we had to design a look that would adequately reflect their unique, highly visible approach. We had the privilege of working with Harry Sladich and his partners – Major Bambino, Corinna Bambino and Shawn Sladich – to create a bold look that is showcased with the GoJoe Patrol logo, patrol cars, website and advertising. We teamed up with Chris White at Comrade studios to produce a GoJoe radio spot that can be heard in the mornings on 920am KXLY. Visit the GoJoe Patrol website at www.gojoepatrol.com to learn more about their services, request a quote and read about facts on Spokane crime.

Honor Point Museum Proudly Reveals New Name And Logo

The Armed Forces & Aerospace Museum came to Klündt | Hosmer to rename and develop a new visual brand for the museum that has plans to build at Felt’s Field. We worked with board member, Tobby Hatley, on the projects and after much research and creative brainstorming, we presented the name “Honor Point – Military and Aerospace Museum” to the board. The result was a unanimous vote in favor of Honor Point.

The name and logo strive to capture the essence of what “honor” means to this group, as well as communicate that message to the Spokane community. The design's focus is a person saluting, a strong symbol that expresses honor and respect. It is supported by wings that elude to the museum's aerospace connection and location. We also utilized a five-point star that represents each branch of the military. The board felt moved by the new image and chose to adopt it for its new brand.

If you are interested in learning about what the new museum will have to offer, head to the MAC for the Cuban Missile Crisis exhibit October 16 - 29 to get a preview of the Honor Point collection. You can also stay tuned for a new website we are working on that will be launching soon.

RED LION HOTELS GIVES YOU THE CHANCE TO TAKE OFF WITH MILLIONS

Red Lion Hotels approached us to help them with this summer’s advertising campaign, which features huge giveaways. The concept we developed, "Take Off With Millions" stands out with bold colors and offers a chance to win either 1 million Alaska Airline miles or 1 million Red Lion Club Points with a mid-week stay. That's approximately 40 round trips or 100 nights in a Red Lion Hotel. The campaign is running online, in print publications and appears on front hotel counters as guests check-in. Unfortunately, we can't enter because we designed the campaign – but you can! Find out more here.

AVISTA'S ANNUAL REPORT, SHARED VALUE REPORT & QUICK FACTS BOOKLET

We always enjoy showcasing our work with Avista, and this year is no exception. Our continued work with Jessie Wuerst, Avista Senior Communications Manager, and the rest of the Corporate Communications team has given us the opportunity to build wonderful relationships that allow us to push our talents to do great work.

After designing, producing and managing the 2011 Annual Report with the theme “Forward with Focus | Together We Will,” we created additional printed and online materials including the 2012 Quick Facts booklet, an 8-page Shared Value summary report and a more extensive online Shared Value report in a new interactive flip book format. All of the pieces feature consistent photography, design elements and content that communicate Avista’s financial position, their plans for the future, and how their business builds value for their customers, investors, employees and communities.

Along with the ability to purchase a variety of motocross accessories online, such as bike stands, trackside pads and goggles, we also developed “MotoGraphics” – a custom interactive graphics builder application, where riders can create custom bike decals based on their motorcycle make, model, year and engine size.

Rockwood Retirement Communities Looking Classy with New Collateral

Since 2010, we have have had the privilege of working with Rockwood Retirement Communities on projects ranging from advertising campaigns to website development to help market and promote their various properties and offerings. When they came to us in need of new print collateral, we were excited to develop a fresh presentation to represent quality living at two of their locations, South Hill and Hawthorne. Our challenge was to create a unified sales kit with a revamped and cohesive design that would appeal to both demographics and highlight the benefits of living in the retirement communities. The sales kit includes a custom die-cut, tri-fold folder, along with a 16-page brochure and insert template for each location. Eowyn Sallis, Marketing Director for Rockwood Retirement Communities, has received very positive response to these new sales tools, and we’re excited to see how they help Rockwood in reaching their occupancy goals.

Planting Seeds for Shepherd’s Grain With a New Website

Klündt | Hosmer recently launched a new website for Shepherd’s Grain, a consortium of over 40 family farms that follow sustainable direct-seeding and no-till agricultural practices to produce their grain. Shepherd’s Grain products are turned into flour, mixes and ultimately baked goods that not only are ecologically-minded, but taste great. The new website includes beautiful photography, custom illustrations and functionality enabling bakers to learn about who raised the wheat that went into their specific bag of flour. The site was built using a CMS allowing Shepherd’s Grain staff to update the site photos and content themselves.

CRAIG SWEAT'S NEW WEBSITE MAKES BIG IMPRESSION

J. Craig Sweat is a successful Spokane commercial photographer who’s been in business for over three decades. He does great work that is highly acclaimed – and we’ve had the pleasure of partnering with him over the years on multiple projects for mutual clients. This time around, he got to be the client. We were tasked to develop a website that simply featured his photography, which really speaks for itself. The idea was to show the images as large as possible, in a unique presentation that put the photographs at the forefront of the website design. The various photo galleries can be scrolled through by clicking the square thumbnails, clicking the next image in the horizontal space, or using the arrow keys on your keyboard – providing the user with multiple ways to navigate. Craig is very pleased with the website, and we are very proud of this simplistic site that allows his work to be the focus.

This philosophy is conveyed in a beautiful visual brand and website Klündt | Hosmer recently created. NEW SHOALWATER BAY TRIBE WEBSITE

Klündt | Hosmer recently launched a new website for the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe in Tokeland, WA.

Working with historical photographs and images of tribal artwork and artifacts, we created a professional, easy-to-use website that contrasts historical imagery with present-day life. The site presents the history, culture and enterprises of the tribe, while enabling quick online access to the Tribe’s services and agencies.

The Shoalwater Tribe is proud of their culture and their place in the world, and are pleased to use this website to share their history and enterprises with everyone.

Hiyu mas´i, Shoalwater Bay Tribe. Many thanks.

MEGIDDO GAME REDESIGNED FOR A NEW GENERATION

This challenging game of strategy was first developed by Steve Baldwin in the mid-1980's. It became very popular with players around the world.

In 2011, Steve’s son Josh decided to re-release Megiddo with an updated design and new innovative rule change. Klündt | Hosmer re-designed the look of the game for a new generation of players. A redesigned board, instruction booklet and packaging brought new energy to this timeless game, named after an ancient Hebrew city where numerous historical battles were waged.

Megiddo will be available for purchase on Amazon.com and will soon be available as an app for iPhone and Android smart phones.

We love design. And sometimes it really does feel like a game.

WSU College of Nursing Looking Sharp in Print & Online

Last year, we had the opportunity to work on the re-design of the WSU College of Nursing’s annual publication, Focus on Nursing. We were excited when we got a call from Alli Benjamin, Communications and Marketing Manager for college, wanting to work with us again to create this year’s edition. The design needed to continue portraying the program as providing a high quality nursing education to a national audience in a scholarly, yet modern way (kind of a tricky task!). The presentation introduces some new design elements that the college will be using to tie into other marketing materials, and is paired with well-written, interesting articles about the college’s programs, students and faculty. It is being distributed through printed copies as well as an online flip book.

Alli Benjamin had these kind words to say about the project: "The publication is one of our strongest marketing tools in recruiting students, faculty, and connecting with nurse leaders throughout the Northwest. Klündt | Hosmer nailed the look we were going for and executed the work seamlessly. We have received several compliments on this piece and faculty have remarked how it is an excellent leave behind, capturing and celebrating what it means to be a Cougar nurse.”

Grand Corner Dental Smiling About New Look

In preparation for moving their thriving dental business to a new, beautiful building and adding another dentist – Joshua R. Cochran, DMD – in 2011, Stan Sargent, DDS was in need of a name change and new visual brand identity.

We enjoyed helping Dr. Sargent and his team pull together a cohesive brand, from their logo and lobby signage, to their website and print materials. The level of service you will receive from the waiting room to the dental chair at Grand Corner Dental is exemplary, and the brand needed to clearly reflect this attribute, while also taking into consideration Dr. Sargent’s friendly approachability.

Serving patients, children to seniors, Dr. Sargent wanted the character of the practice to be positive, uplifting and friendly. The logo we developed conveys an upbeat and happy tone, with a cleaver rendering of the letter “G” promoting the name of the practice Grand Corner Dental, which is located at Grand Avenue and 37th Avenue.

New Trade Show Booth for Leisure Concepts Makes a Splash in Vegas

Earlier this month, Jean Klündt and Diane Mahan made it to Vegas with the new trade show booth Klündt | Hosmer designed for Leisure Concepts and their new product Smartop, which was set up at the International Pool, Spa and Patio Show at Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Walking into the convention center, it was apparent that Leisure Concepts made a big impact. As expected, blue, aqua and white dominated the show floor, so the unique two-sided, bold-colored booth we designed stood out among the others. Since we're not about the expected, the 50 foot by 70 foot booth included a mirrored layout, featuring a striking green side with a strong feminine silhouette that introduced the new Smartop spa cover, and a strongly branded orange and blue side for Leisure Concepts spa accessories.

While doing some people-watching, it was clear that attendees did a noticeable double-take as they walked by the booth, then couldn’t keep their eyes off the design – it really drew people into the booth, which gave Leisure Concepts staff the opportunity to sell their products to dealers who came from all over the world.

Dr. Susan Kohls Unveils a New Building, Brand and Website

It's always like Christmas around the office when a client's website goes live. Launching Dr. Susan Mahan Kohls' site was no different. The colors of the site reflect the warm and inviting colors in both the new brand package we designed and her office interior. The site provides patients with a personal look at her practice, including an introduction to her associate Dr. Frank Lynn Wright and her staff, while featuring important information and resources. Dr. Kohls' South Hill Spokane office is easily accessible at 2020 E 29th Avenue.

After the recent launch of Dr. Kohls’ website, she told us, “I am extremely thrilled with my new website. It reflects our philosophy of practice exactly as I imagined it would. Everyone at Klündt | Hosmer was so professional and easy to work with. I appreciate all the research that was done to design my site to be user friendly and informational to my current patients and to patients looking for a new dental home.”

Celebrating 15 Years of Patti!

Patti Nichols is Klündt | Hosmer’s behind-the-scenes doer of all things financial, or really anything for that matter. She is responsible for managing the office and handling accounts receivable and payable. If you have received an invoice or a check from us in the past 15 years, you have received it from Patti.

And that’s the point of this Spotlight story: Patti just celebrated her 15th anniversary at Klündt | Hosmer and we couldn’t let that milestone go unrecognized. As our longest-term employee, Patti has been with the firm through the majority of its history. Her expertise in managing our financial software and accounts keeps us running efficiently and profitably. She also bakes killer birthday cakes (a.k.a. “Patti Cakes”) and makes sure the most essential (and fun!) office supplies are stocked, which makes our staff incredibly grateful and functional.

Congratulations and thank you, Patti – it’s been a great 15 years working with you!

Two New Hires Bring the Fountain of Youth to K|H

We’re very excited to boast about the latest additions to our team: Katie Kolahi, Account Coordinator and Tyler Kracht, Designer.

Katie worked with us as an intern this summer after receiving her BA in Communication in Advertising at Washington State University. We liked having her around so much that we offered her an Account Coordinator position. Katie is from the Seattle area and decided that Spokane is the place where she wanted to start her career. She is detail-oriented, creative, and a real pleasure to work with.

Tyler came to us from a graphic design position at Pierpoint Media. Before that, he studied at Alexandria Tech College in Minnesota where he won multiple ADDY awards for his design work. Tyler is a hard worker and talented designer, and brings a background in progressive design and photography to our team. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious.

We are excited to have both Katie and Tyler on our team, and encourage you to stop and say hello to each of them next time you’re in the office.
