Second Nature Wilderness Programs is a nationally recognized leader in wilderness therapy for pre-teens, adolescents and young adults. The organization operates programs in Oregon, Utah and Georgia.
After redesigning Second Nature’s brand image and a series of program brochures, we created a website conveying the organization’s key messages to their target audience. We used natural colors and artifacts, wilderness photography, Flash® animated brochures, Google maps and content that guides the visitor to learn how Second Nature’s programs can help their family.
A Parent Portal is accessed via secure log-in, providing parents 24/7 online updates regarding their child’s progress in the program and current photos of their child in the wilderness.
A new Google Adwords campaign and search engine optimization strategy was implemented, improving the relevance of the visitor finding the site via online search.
SL Start is an organization that helps people with developmental and physical disabilities achieve independence and obtain skills training for gainful employment. They provide services for children and adults in over 26 cities throughout Washington and Idaho. Klündt | Hosmer is proud to have worked with SL Start for over 20 years developing brand image, print collateral, advertising and online marketing for the company.
We recently developed a new Corporate Services brochure for SL Start. The 8-page “Hope Starts Here” brochure was designed, art directed and written by Klündt | Hosmer and printed by Johnston Printing. The brochure introduces the company, outlines its services for children and adults with developmental disabilities, as well as highlights employment training.
The brochure is part of a comprehensive marketing and communications package developed with SL Start staff, including a series of service sheets and a new website that will launch this spring.
We have worked with Steve Johnston at Johnston Printing for over 22 years. His team does a great job printing brochures, stationery packages, posters, catalogs and other publications for our clients. We have been on thousands of press checks at their facility and know how well they handle the pressure of our quality expectations and deadlines.
Besides sinking a perfect putt on the golf course, one of Steve’s loves is flying. He has been a private pilot for years.
On Monday, February 13, Steve was on a routine solo flight over Lake Coeur d’Alene. When at 700 feet the plane’s single engine lost power, Steve had to come up with options... quick. Capitalizing on integrating his love of flying with his love of golf, Steve glided the plane down and made a perfect emergency landing on the 9th fairway of the Coeur d’Alene Resort golf course.
We have seen Steve and his crew work under pressure many times, but this landing was notably his best effort yet. Definitely worthy of a drink at the clubhouse. Steve, we’ll put you down for a hole in one.
After the mechanic worked on the plane and the FAA cleared Steve, he flew off the end of the fairway and into the history books. Fortunately, he cleared the water.

For nearly 20 years Kim Hotstart's logo has reflected the company's brand essence. It has helped them grow and thrive in their competitive market, however, the marketplace has changed and become more global. When CEO Rick Robinson decided that it was time to address this he contacted Klündt | Hosmer, who designed the previous corporate identity. We worked with Desautel Hege Communications to learn about the new business environment and what it would take to present a new image that would position the company for the future.
The new logo evokes an established, yet modern feel that builds on the old logo's brand equity. The company dropped "Kim" from its name, which paired with the new look presents a responsive, approachable and innovative image.
Along with the new logo, Klündt | Hosmer designed a new trade show exhibit, brochure, business cards and website, all conveying the company's new visual brand. We are currently working on additional branding materials to be rolled out in the coming months.
Klündt | Hosmer recently designed a new logo for the Mt. Spokane Wildcats. This logo design creates an image that is striking, unique, strong, first-class, proud, and steadfast. It is representative of the high school's teammates, fellow students, and the greater community. Klündt | Hosmer is proud to have helped improve the school's visual image and wishes to thank Dave Nelson of Land Expressions for his contribution to the project.
Located in Union Grove, Wisconsin, Shepherds College discovered Klündt | Hosmer via Twitter when @LoganMagazine tweeted about our design of the lifestyle magazine for people with disabilities.
Shepherds College is very unique in that they provide higher education and spiritual growth opportunities for young adults with developmental or learning disabilities. These students want to prepare for a career, but a typical college or university might not be the right fit for them-Shepherds College meets their particular needs.
Shepherds College needed a new website and recruiting materials to promote the organization's offerings to potential students and their parents, as well as serve as an information resource for current students, families, alumni, supporters and higher-ed professionals. They hired Klündt | Hosmer to produce this work.
Jean Klündt recently flew to Wisconsin to art direct photography and video for use in their website and print promotions. We are excited to build a successful relationship with this great client!
As part of the Spokane Regional CVB advertising campaign, we implemented a search engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) strategy to drive traffic to their website. These efforts, coupled with an aggressive social and traditional media campaign, have nearly doubled the unique site visits to www.VisitSpokane.com.
Year-to-date traffic at the beginning of August 2009 had already passed total web traffic for all of 2008, and the number of sites linking to VisitSpokane.com has doubled as more sites are using VisitSpokane.com, the official destination website, as the trusted authority for anything related to the Spokane region. This additional web traffic creates more visibility, allows visitors to quickly find destination information, book hotels, and brings in additional tourism dollars to the Spokane region.
For more information on how we can increase your website traffic through effective SEO and PPC campaigns, please contact us.

Last fall, Empire Health Services was purchased by Community Health Systems, a publicly traded hospital system. The net proceeds of that sale are being managed by the Empire Health Foundation (EHF) to ensure that the charitable health and wellness mission of Empire Health Services lives on for Eastern Washington.
Klündt | Hosmer worked closely with Desautel Hege Communications and the EHF Board of Directors in creating a visual identity for this new foundation. The design depicts Washington State with a customized medical care caduceus symbol strategically centered over the region served by the foundation. The logo conveys a sense of health, regional inclusiveness and trust.
The new identity was unanimously approved by the Board and will be implemented through the organization's identity package, website and other brand communication materials.
Partnering with Hill & Knowlton, Klündt | Hosmer recently developed a new website for Spokane Eye Clinic. The site was designed not only to support and reflect the clinic's new visual brand family, including Spokane Eye Surgery Center and Spokane Optical, but also to allow easy access to important information, and give site visitors a pleasant website experience. The site highlights the clinic's doctors and their specialties, along with information about eye care and a handy contact lens re-reorder form. See for yourself at www.spokaneeye.com.

Klündt | Hosmer is proud to have assisted the newly-formed Spokane International District with the development of a visual identity to represent the neighborhood.
Working with Spokane City Councilman, Mike Allen along with a group of East Sprague business owners, we created a design that visually compiles 9 international flags into one flag to represent the different nationalities, cultures and businesses that reside in this unique Spokane neighborhood.
Klündt | Hosmer's work has helped put a "face" on Spokane for the past 22 years. We are pleased to have added one more "face" to the family with the Spokane International District, whose goal is to create a vital, successful urban business neighborhood extending along the Sprague corridor from the Hamilton Bridge to Havana St, next to the University District.
For more information about the Spokane International District, check out their website.
Creating a website for Kaniksu Sands, Priest Lake's newest waterfront community, was a natural fit for Klündt | Hosmer. Most of us have personally spent many delightful seasons in and around the lake, so when Fred and Ruby Johnston of Kaniksu Sands called on us, we were very excited. The community offers discriminating cottage and condo owners the exclusivity of a private residence with the amenities of a sophisticated lakeside community located on one of the most pristine lakes in Idaho.
Congratulations to our friends Craig and Vicki Leuthold, owners of Maryhill Winery, who were recently recognized as the ‘2009 Washington Winery of the Year' by Wine Press NW and the ‘Best Destination Winery' by Seattle Magazine. We are very proud of the work we have created with Maryhill over the years and are happy to be a part of their great success!
Klündt | Hosmer had a blast working on the new broadcast advertising campaign for the Spokane Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau. Local marmots, Stan and Benny, try to figure out why so many visitors come to Spokane.
The spots were concepted, written and directed by Klündt | Hosmer, with additional direction from the CVB. The video crew at Cornerbooth Media handled the talent and shot the footage by the Spokane River near Gonzaga University. Two different scripts were written and recorded to the same video edit. The :30 second spots are airing on television stations throughout the Pacific Northwest, Canada and western Montana, and are being promoted on VisitSpokane.com and YouTube.
Why DO so many people come to Spokane, anyway? Watch the spot and see what Stan and Benny think.

Windows Doors & More is one of the Northwest's premier retailers of window and door products for contractors, architects and home owners. They saw the website we developed for Cascade Windows, one of their supplying manufacturers, and tracked us down to redesign their own site.
With showrooms in Seattle and Redmond, and customers throughout western and central Washington, Windows Doors & More needed a sophisticated website, fitting of the high-end homes that utilize their products.
Klündt | Hosmer designed the site, featuring landscape images from the Pacific Northwest; interactive service, quote and feedback forms; and an interactive "page-turning" product catalog.
The site is maintained through a content management system that enables Windows Doors & More staff to update their page content.

The theme for 2008's book is "The Power Behind Green Thinking," which is also featured in an online version of the report. Our team art directed, designed, proofed and managed the project, and worked with J. Craig Sweat Photography and Ross Printing.
The 127-page print publication delivered on a tight schedule and with stringent requirements. It has received many wonderful responses. We are very proud of this work with Avista Corp.

Klündt | Hosmer designed and produced the Dean Davis Editions website. The site features artists galleries, online print ordering, and a blog where Dean shares his insights on art, photography and archival printmaking. The site also enables artists and photographers to upload files of their own work for printing, or to be added to the interactive artist galleries.

Klündt | Hosmer recently launched a website for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, which follows our design of the tribal brochure, communicating a “Past, Present, Future” message.
The website includes many pages of information—written with assistance from Desautel Hege Communications—and presented through a well-organized navigation system. Photo galleries showcase current-day and historical images, and a multi-view calendar of events lets visitors know what is going on with the tribe. The site also includes employment and charitable fund areas, both of which are used on a regular basis by the general public.
The site is implemented through a content management system and will be updated by tribal staff. A future section of the site will include Salish language audio resources, historical heritage content and other information of importance to Kalispel tribal members.
A few weeks ago, I returned from a trip to China with a group of 64 local business people and family members. The trip was organized by Greater Spokane Incorporated and the International Trade Alliance. Its purpose was to introduce Americans to Chinese culture and present possible business opportunities with China.
We spent four days in Beijing, touring the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, hiking the Great Wall, viewing the Olympic Village, and touring local businesses and manufacturing facilities. One evening we had a meeting with other U.S. business owners and representatives from ChinaTrade, an organization connecting Chinese and American businesses.
A few days in Shanghai made me realize that no matter what is happening in OUR economy, there is a LOT of business going on in China. There is even potential for new business for Klündt | Hosmer, as we may get the chance to create marketing materials for a Chinese manufacturer of solar water heaters looking to export their product to the U.S.
—Rick Hosmer, Principal/Creative Director

Klündt | Hosmer received recognition at the 2009 Addy Awards, hosted last month by the Spokane Advertising Federation. The awards recognized local advertising, design, and media businesses for advertising and creative excellence. Our winning entries included the following projects. Congrats to our partners and clients on another year of award-winning work!

Klündt | Hosmer has been named the agency of record for the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau after a lengthy review process that involved five other agencies. We are excited about this partnership and look forward to the process of creating comprehensive marketing initiatives to drive leisure and convention travel to the region through traditional media, video production, media planning and buying, SEO, viral and interactive media.
We recently launched a website for Design Source, an interior planning and design firm. Located in Spokane’s 1906 Firestation No. 9, Design Source has transformed the space through responsible and sustainable design into an inspiring studio. Red, the Fire Station’s Dalmatian mascot, helps to visually represent the firm and their tie to the historic landmark. The website features a bold and fun design reflecting their creative and innovative personality, along with an expansive portfolio section showcasing the work they’ve completed for both commercial and residential clients.
The February issue of Spokane Metro Magazine featured the article, “Love @ Work” by Cheryl-Anne Millsap and Amy Clamper that focused on four area couples who work together. One of the couples highlighted was our own Jean and Darin Klündt. The article touched on the benefits and challenges found in working together. Jean and Darin both think that working together makes their marriage a healthier and richer experience. We think it makes our work at Klündt | Hosmer better too. The magazine can be subscribed to at spokanemetromag.com.
