August 2010—Bussey Endodontics, Klündt-Sargent Wedding, KH Employee PHoto Shoot

Posted by Klündt | Hosmer on August 25 2010

Need a Root Canal in Virginia?

When Bussey Endodontics in Virginia needed a new visual brand and website for their practice, Dr. Lisa Ellingsen of Ellingsen Endodontics in Spokane Valley (a Klündt | Hosmer client) referred her friend Dr. Kelly Bussey to Klündt | Hosmer.

Working via phone and online presentations, we designed a brand identity for Bussey Endodontics and expanded that brand into a website design that promotes the services available in their two office locations in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, VA.

The website presents an overview of the doctors and services, and enables dentists to submit patient referrals through an easy-to-use online form.

Timeless Design Carries into Wedded Bliss!

When your parents are graphic designers, rest assured that the invitation part of wedding planning is covered. So, when Darin and Jean Klündt's son Ben got engaged, the fun began! Jean and Diane Mahan drew inspiration for the invitation from the famed Boston landscape designers, the Olmstead Brothers, who in 1886 designed the garden gates on the grounds of Bozarth Mansion, where the wedding ceremony was to be held. The garden gate graces the front of the invitation, and a garden theme runs throughout the invitation package and program.

The fun and celebration continued on July 30th, 2010 when Ben and Lauren tied the knot in the beautiful garden courtyard of the 124-year-old estate where, 25 years ago this summer, Jean and Darin exchanged their own wedding vows.

Congrats Ben and Lauren!

Dean Davis, Making Us Look Good!

We recently had fun shooting new staff portraits with Dean Davis in his studio. The new images will be used in project proposals, our website, press releases and other media that might need photos of our smiling faces. Of course, we ended up with a beautiful gallery of nice images of each team member, but there's always the fun outtakes we just couldn't pass up sharing. Enjoy!

July 2010—Gonzaga, Spokane CVB, Strategic Research

Posted by Klündt | Hosmer on July 28 2010

Gonzaga Invites Students to "Be Inspired"

Klündt | Hosmer recently completed the latest 60-page undergraduate admission view book for Gonzaga University. This 2010-2011 edition is an update of the previous version, with fresh articles, colors, images and updated academic information throughout the book to present high school juniors and seniors the options and benefits of applying to Gonzaga University.

Inspiring and fun photographs were shot by on-campus and local photographers, including Dean Davis, and were incorporated into the view book design. Klündt | Hosmer has guided the design and production of the past four view books for the university. Carie Weeks, Assistant Dean of Admission, wrote and managed the project.

The design for the view book is being incorporated into posters, brochures and other undergraduate admission materials for Gonzaga University.

Strategic Research Refreshes Web Presence

Building on the visual brand and website that Klündt | Hosmer created five years ago for Strategic Research Associates, we recently completed a next-generation website project that updated the visuals and functionality of the site. The update included incorporating a content management system that allows the client to maintain their own content and keep their site updated for visitors and for search engine optimization.

The project was a success and Dean Moorehouse, President of Strategic Research, was happy with the results. He told us: "I really like the refreshed site, and working with you again renewed my appreciation for the excellence you bring to the design community. Thank you!"

June 2010—Wheatland Bank Spot, Spokane CVB Visitors Guide, Avista Wall Display

Posted by Klündt | Hosmer on June 17 2010

What's Wheatland Bank Made Of?

Building on the ad concept we developed for Wheatland Bank last year, we created an innovative :30 second TV spot to connect primarily with business owners in need of lending from a bank in a strong financial position.

The campaign asks "What's Your Bank Made Of?" and uses animated words that are derived from the letters in Wheatland Bank's name. This is a compelling way to tell the story of Wheatland Bank while keeping their brand at the center of the message.

Mike Bold and our friends at Hamilton Studio helped us produce the TV spot, which is being implemented through a regional TV campaign. The concept was also incorporated in a regional print and outdoor advertising campaign, as well as in-branch messaging. You can view the TV commercial on the Wheatland Bank home page.

Avista Annual Report Theme Makes Impressive Wall Art

As you saw in last month's Spotlight email, the 2009 Avista Annual report theme "Energy for a Smart Future" has been well received. It has now found its way into several other applications, including a wall display at Avista Corporate Headquarters that Communications Manager Jessie Wuerst asked us to assist with. It was fun to take the elements from the book and design them at a larger scale to create a visually impactful wall display. The vinyl graphics behind the panels set the stage for the "Innovation Forward" timeline pieces to be read about on the boards-all important parts of Avista's history, demonstrating their philosophy of innovation and sustainability. The display was debuted at the Avista Annual Meeting of Shareholders on May 13th.

Hamilton Studio Helps Make "Logan" Beautiful

Logan's photo shoot at Hamilton PhotographyKlündt | Hosmer has been committed to Logan Olson and her magazine, "Logan" for several years. A critical aspect of the quality of this publication is the professional photography that is provided pro bono by The Hamilton Studio.

Don Hamilton has been supportive of Logan and her vision since the beginning. For each issue, his team works with our art directors in shooting the cover photograph of Logan and interior images as needed. They donate many hours to each issue, helping make a positive difference in the lives of young people living with disabilities.

The Hamilton team is awesome to work with. Logan tells us, "The Hamilton Studio makes me feel like I'm the most beautiful person on earth!"

Thanks, and a "High Five" to Don, Lorna, Matt and Michael for capturing Logan's true beauty: her spirit!

Avista's Energy for a Smart Future

Avista 2009 Annual ReportThis year, Klündt | Hosmer once again partnered with Communications Manager Jessie Wuerst on the Avista Corp. annual report. With the theme of "Energy for a Smart Future," the 2009 report features imagery rendered in an illustrative, whimsical, earth-friendly style. Anne Ogle, the daughter of Avista employee Brad Ogle, appears throughout the piece representing Avista's future of sustainable energy. Our team art directed, designed, proofed and managed the project, and worked with J. Craig Sweat Photography and Ross Printing.

The 127-page print publication, along with the online presentation, delivered on a tight schedule and with stringent requirements. The design and messaging have been well received and are now being used on other collateral materials and signage within Avista headquarters.

March 2010—Shepherds College Web Site, 2010 KH ADDY Winners, Kaniksu Ad Campaign

Posted by Klundt | Hosmer on March 25 2010

Shepherds College Flocks to Klündt | Hosmer

Shepherds College is a small, specialized, Christian college in Wisconsin that offers education and life skills training for students with intellectual disabilities. We introduced this client to Spotlight readers in our January 2010 issue.

After a couple of months of work, we completed and launched the college's new website. Our team worked closely with Shepherds' staff in writing, designing and programming the new site. A video produced with Mark Forman is a featured component, along with details on the college's programs and statements from administration and faculty on what makes Shepherds College such a special place.

The new site has received rave reviews from board members, parents and Shepherds staff. Susan Griffis, Shepherds College Director of Marketing, emailed us right after the site went live saying, "Thank you! The site is beautiful! Everyone did an amazing job on both the site and the video. When starting this project, I prayed for God to show me who He wanted to work with Shepherds College, and I have NO DOUBT that I heard Him correctly. You're a gifted team of people and I feel very blessed to partner with you. I can't wait to see what you do with the rest of projects!"

It's difficult to receive higher praise than that - Thanks, Shepherds College, we are honored to work on these inspiring projects.

Priest Lake Never Looked Better

The print advertising campaign Klündt | Hosmer developed for Kaniksu Sands won Best of Division at the 2010 Spokane Advertising Federation ADDY Awards, and resulted in success beyond the client's expectations.

Kaniksu Sands is a waterfront community located on the shores of Priest Lake, ID consisting of private custom homes, condos, and a planned beachfront clubhouse. The client needed to promote awareness and sales of the development by attracting potential buyers to their website and open house events.

A series of 4 ads was created, showcasing the beauty and activities of the area and creatively playing on well-known sayings and themes. The ads ran in the Spokesman-Review, Coeur d'Alene Magazine and Lands & Home. The campaign resulted in very strong open house attendance and interest, and has set the branding and image for this unique lakeside development.

February 2010—Second Nature, SL Start, Steve Johnston

Posted by on February 24 2010

Second Nature’s New Website—A Breath of Fresh Air

Second Nature Wilderness Programs is a nationally recognized leader in wilderness therapy for pre-teens, adolescents and young adults. The organization operates programs in Oregon, Utah and Georgia.

After redesigning Second Nature’s brand image and a series of program brochures, we created a website conveying the organization’s key messages to their target audience. We used natural colors and artifacts, wilderness photography, Flash® animated brochures, Google maps and content that guides the visitor to learn how Second Nature’s programs can help their family.

A Parent Portal is accessed via secure log-in, providing parents 24/7 online updates regarding their child’s progress in the program and current photos of their child in the wilderness.

A new Google Adwords campaign and search engine optimization strategy was implemented, improving the relevance of the visitor finding the site via online search.

SL Start Brochure Promotes Unique Services

SL Start is an organization that helps people with developmental and physical disabilities achieve independence and obtain skills training for gainful employment. They provide services for children and adults in over 26 cities throughout Washington and Idaho. Klündt | Hosmer is proud to have worked with SL Start for over 20 years developing brand image, print collateral, advertising and online marketing for the company.

We recently developed a new Corporate Services brochure for SL Start. The 8-page “Hope Starts Here” brochure was designed, art directed and written by Klündt | Hosmer and printed by Johnston Printing. The brochure introduces the company, outlines its services for children and adults with developmental disabilities, as well as highlights employment training.

The brochure is part of a comprehensive marketing and communications package developed with SL Start staff, including a series of service sheets and a new website that will launch this spring.

Johnston Lands Big One Under Pressure

We have worked with Steve Johnston at Johnston Printing for over 22 years. His team does a great job printing brochures, stationery packages, posters, catalogs and other publications for our clients. We have been on thousands of press checks at their facility and know how well they handle the pressure of our quality expectations and deadlines.

Besides sinking a perfect putt on the golf course, one of Steve’s loves is flying. He has been a private pilot for years.

On Monday, February 13, Steve was on a routine solo flight over Lake Coeur d’Alene. When at 700 feet the plane’s single engine lost power, Steve had to come up with options... quick. Capitalizing on integrating his love of flying with his love of golf, Steve glided the plane down and made a perfect emergency landing on the 9th fairway of the Coeur d’Alene Resort golf course.

We have seen Steve and his crew work under pressure many times, but this landing was notably his best effort yet. Definitely worthy of a drink at the clubhouse. Steve, we’ll put you down for a hole in one.

After the mechanic worked on the plane and the FAA cleared Steve, he flew off the end of the fairway and into the history books. Fortunately, he cleared the water.

January 2010—HOTSTART, Mt. Spokane High School, Shepherds College

Posted by Klündt | Hosmer on January 14 2010

A BRAND NEW START FOR HOTSTART

For nearly 20 years Kim Hotstart's logo has reflected the company's brand essence. It has helped them grow and thrive in their competitive market, however, the marketplace has changed and become more global. When CEO Rick Robinson decided that it was time to address this he contacted Klündt | Hosmer, who designed the previous corporate identity. We worked with Desautel Hege Communications to learn about the new business environment and what it would take to present a new image that would position the company for the future.

The new logo evokes an established, yet modern feel that builds on the old logo's brand equity. The company dropped "Kim" from its name, which paired with the new look presents a responsive, approachable and innovative image.

Along with the new logo, Klündt | Hosmer designed a new trade show exhibit, brochure, business cards and website, all conveying the company's new visual brand. We are currently working on additional branding materials to be rolled out in the coming months.

MT. SPOKANE HIGH SCHOOL GETS NEW LOGO

Klündt | Hosmer recently designed a new logo for the Mt. Spokane Wildcats. This logo design creates an image that is striking, unique, strong, first-class, proud, and steadfast. It is representative of the high school's teammates, fellow students, and the greater community. Klündt | Hosmer is proud to have helped improve the school's visual image and wishes to thank Dave Nelson of Land Expressions for his contribution to the project.

WE'RE TWITTER-PATED WITH NEW CLIENT SHEPHERDS COLLEGE

Located in Union Grove, Wisconsin, Shepherds College discovered Klündt | Hosmer via Twitter when @LoganMagazine tweeted about our design of the lifestyle magazine for people with disabilities.

Shepherds College is very unique in that they provide higher education and spiritual growth opportunities for young adults with developmental or learning disabilities. These students want to prepare for a career, but a typical college or university might not be the right fit for them-Shepherds College meets their particular needs.

Shepherds College needed a new website and recruiting materials to promote the organization's offerings to potential students and their parents, as well as serve as an information resource for current students, families, alumni, supporters and higher-ed professionals. They hired Klündt | Hosmer to produce this work.

Jean Klündt recently flew to Wisconsin to art direct photography and video for use in their website and print promotions. We are excited to build a successful relationship with this great client!

September 2009—CVB Web Traffic, Empire Health Foundation Logo, Spokane Eye Clinic Site

Posted by Klündt | Hosmer on September 30 2009

KlÜndt | Hosmer Helps Increase Spokane Regional CVB Web Traffic by 123%

As part of the Spokane Regional CVB advertising campaign, we implemented a search engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) strategy to drive traffic to their website. These efforts, coupled with an aggressive social and traditional media campaign, have nearly doubled the unique site visits to www.VisitSpokane.com.

Year-to-date traffic at the beginning of August 2009 had already passed total web traffic for all of 2008, and the number of sites linking to VisitSpokane.com has doubled as more sites are using VisitSpokane.com, the official destination website, as the trusted authority for anything related to the Spokane region. This additional web traffic creates more visibility, allows visitors to quickly find destination information, book hotels, and brings in additional tourism dollars to the Spokane region.

For more information on how we can increase your website traffic through effective SEO and PPC campaigns, please contact us.

Empire Health Foundation's New Logo

Last fall, Empire Health Services was purchased by Community Health Systems, a publicly traded hospital system. The net proceeds of that sale are being managed by the Empire Health Foundation (EHF) to ensure that the charitable health and wellness mission of Empire Health Services lives on for Eastern Washington.

Klündt | Hosmer worked closely with Desautel Hege Communications and the EHF Board of Directors in creating a visual identity for this new foundation. The design depicts Washington State with a customized medical care caduceus symbol strategically centered over the region served by the foundation. The logo conveys a sense of health, regional inclusiveness and trust.

The new identity was unanimously approved by the Board and will be implemented through the organization's identity package, website and other brand communication materials.

Focus on Spokane Eye Clinic's New Website

Partnering with Hill & Knowlton, Klündt | Hosmer recently developed a new website for Spokane Eye Clinic. The site was designed not only to support and reflect the clinic's new visual brand family, including Spokane Eye Surgery Center and Spokane Optical, but also to allow easy access to important information, and give site visitors a pleasant website experience. The site highlights the clinic's doctors and their specialties, along with information about eye care and a handy contact lens re-reorder form. See for yourself at www.spokaneeye.com.

August 2009—Spokane International District, Kaniksu Sands, Maryhill Winery

Posted by Klündt | Hosmer on August 04 2009

It’s a Small World (with Big Ideas)

Klündt | Hosmer is proud to have assisted the newly-formed Spokane International District with the development of a visual identity to represent the neighborhood.

Working with Spokane City Councilman, Mike Allen along with a group of East Sprague business owners, we created a design that visually compiles 9 international flags into one flag to represent the different nationalities, cultures and businesses that reside in this unique Spokane neighborhood.

Klündt | Hosmer's work has helped put a "face" on Spokane for the past 22 years. We are pleased to have added one more "face" to the family with the Spokane International District, whose goal is to create a vital, successful urban business neighborhood extending along the Sprague corridor from the Hamilton Bridge to Havana St, next to the University District.

For more information about the Spokane International District, check out their website.

Escape to Kaniksu Sands at Priest Lake

Creating a website for Kaniksu Sands, Priest Lake's newest waterfront community, was a natural fit for Klündt | Hosmer. Most of us have personally spent many delightful seasons in and around the lake, so when Fred and Ruby Johnston of Kaniksu Sands called on us, we were very excited. The community offers discriminating cottage and condo owners the exclusivity of a private residence with the amenities of a sophisticated lakeside community located on one of the most pristine lakes in Idaho.

Maryhill 2009 Winery of the Year

Congratulations to our friends Craig and Vicki Leuthold, owners of Maryhill Winery, who were recently recognized as the ‘2009 Washington Winery of the Year' by Wine Press NW and the ‘Best Destination Winery' by Seattle Magazine. We are very proud of the work we have created with Maryhill over the years and are happy to be a part of their great success!
