2014 Project Rundown: Avista Corp.
Avista Makes History: 125 Years & Counting
This is recap #2 of projects that have kept Klündt | Hosmer busy so far in 2014.
It’s not every year that a client celebrates its 125th anniversary, but in early 2014, that was the case for Avista. Founded in 1889, Avista has generated and provided safe and convenient electrical power since Thomas Edison was still debating the perceived benefits of direct current vs. alternating current.
Working closely with Avista’s team, Klündt | Hosmer’s project managers, art directors, creative directors and designers worked over several months to develop a slew of communication projects that celebrate the 125-year milestone and educate audiences on the history and mission of Avista:
125th Anniversary History Book
The premier history piece was this 44-page, perfect bound book that covers the high-points of Avista’s first 100 years and more detailed information on the company’s last 25 years. Klündt | Hosmer provided research, copy writing, design, photo selection, digital production and printing supervision on the project and all of these Avista projects. A unique aspect of the book is the front and back cover photograph which features a transition of an old employee photograph from the 1920’s to a modern employee photo.
Traveling Exhibit Display Panels
Avista’s service territory covers parts of Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. These interpretive panels highlight historical events of significance and are exhibited at public events and facilities in Avista’s service territory.
An 8-page newspaper tabloid was developed that featured historical photographs and brief write-ups of significant events throughout Avista’s 125 year history. This tabloid was distributed through newspaper deliveries throughout Avista’s service region.
Post Street Substation Environmental Graphics
Avista’s Post Street Substation is an historic building designed by architect Kirtland Cutter. Avista’s 125-year history is celebrated there by large photo montage panels that are displayed through in the windows of the facility.
A responsive microsite was also developed that showcases the 125 years of Avista and provides access to video and other resources that are best delivered online.
The successful and on-time delivery of these projects culminated in a great team wrap party held at Anthony’s at the Falls — a very fitting location considering that we celebrated in the shadow of Spokane Falls — the very thing that made starting Avista possible 125 years earlier.
